Prime Day is a good excuse to look for new toys. And when Wired recommends something, it's a must buy.
I now have a new GPS watch (Garmin Forerunner 35), which I picked for two reasons:
(1) I want an easy to use log of where we go, better than the phone (kills the battery), and the little matchbox size logger (have to remove the memory card and put it in a reader.
(2) I want to broadcast the position to a Windows tablet, becasue the makers of those don't think GPS is a use case around which they will design.
Reason 1 has been fully satisified; the watch is very easy to use. My only beef if that it requires a proprietary cable (that's the Garmin way), so it's one more USB cable to take when travelling; our trip to Italy required three diffferent USB cables.
Reason 2 may or may not be possible. I will have to master BlueTooth connection programming, and the API, and after some detailed looking have not found a clear way to query to watch for the GPS position.
