Eastern Mountain Vistas (Shenandoah)

Deer Everywhere

If you frame the shot carefully, it's all nature.  Slip up, and they're on the road, or in the middle of the lodge buildings.

These are from the Pixel and the Nikon D5300.

Butterflies, Shenandoah National Park

Deer and Bears at Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah National Park is full of deer.  These are just off the trail beside the road, up in the woods.  I started with the 18-140 mm lens; this is zoomed in as close at it goes.

Change to the 70-300 mm lens, again zoomed in as close as it gets.  Several does, and several fawns which are smaller and have white spots.

An adult rapidly joins the group, and the bound away across the road.

As we continue on, a car stops and excitedly tells us there are bears up in the woods in the area just vacated by the deer.  A sow and they think three cuts.  We cautiously go back, and there are black shapes up there.  Dark, small, and hard to focus, but we see at least one large and two small bears.  Honest, even if they are not as clear as the deer.  They can also be much nastier, especially if you come between the Momma Bear and the cubs (remember, this is Virginia, famous for the Loudoun Mama Bears).
