What Does 4 Feet MLLW Look Like?

 Gate 8 closes.

Gate 3 open.

Roads closed around the perimeter.

Some cars may have water incursions.

Cherry blossoms in bloom,

Watching the Flooding Forecast Zero in on 4 Feet MLLW

Is it worth it to go see the flooding?  To get up early, or will it be too dark?  How windy or rainy will it be?

NOAA to the rescue.  As early as two days out, it was predicting about 4 foot above MLLW.

Four feet is impressive, in my prediction model above.

The prediction bounced around over the next two days, but this morning it looked like a good place for a walk.  See the next blog posting.

Bedminster Earthquake

On April 5 there was an earthquake in northern New Jersey. USGS called it the Whitehorse Station earthquake, but I prefer Bedminster for the nearby tax-break cemetery.

The site has some interesting results.  The site uses the Modified Mercalli Intensity, which measures the local damage or motion at the observer's location.  A single earthquake can have a range of intensities, generally arranged in a bull's eye pattern around the epicenter.  In contrast the earthquake has only a single magnitude, 4.8 for this one.

One person barely felt the earthquake in the Virgin Islands as a magnitude I, the smallest value.

More interesting are the 16 people who felt very large intensities near Mar-a-Lago in Florida.  Perhaps the seismic energy has a special conduit between those locations.
