Ooh, Las Vegas Sunrise

When you wake up on East Coast time, it's easy to go out and capture the sunrise (not to mention a lot cooler; Labor Day weekend was well over 100°F.  Later in the week it was much cooler over 9000 feet at the North Rim and over 10,000 feet at Cedar Breaks.

At one corner, New York, medieval England, and ancient Egypt (the Las Vegas versions)

Tropicana disappearing to put in a new stadium.  Gambling and professional sports, the perfect blend.  Traffic even at sunrise.

Geology in the mountains west of town.  Better rocks to the north in the Sheep Range.

Parking lots (and slow traffic) everywhere.

With enough water, the desert blossoms.

 When we returned at the end of week, haze replaced the blue skies.

SRTM 15 topography, and tracks from the Garmin watch and the Pixel phone.  Each day is a different color.

Spring break 2023.  Visits to Valley of Fire State Park, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Escalente, Antelope Canyon, Pipe Spring.  Start and end in Las Vegas

Labor Day 2024.  Visits to Deep Springs, Zion, Glamping Lake Powell, North Rim Grand Canyon, Cedar Breaks, Kolob Canyons.  And of course Las Vegas.  This shows the flights in and out (really straight tracks), with the return in green in great views of the Grand Canyon.

 

Goldfinch

 One of the much less common birds to visit our feeder, and usually very skittish.  Today this guy hung around.

Iridescent Feathers

 Where the sun is out and catches come boring black birds, the feathers can be beautiful.

I am also experimenting with the ISO setting on the camera, to get shorter shutter speeds, and slow down the wing motion.  Catching the right moment for the shot can be a challenge.
